Most
of these photographs have been realised with a plastic china-made
‘toy-camera’. It’s lens produces unpredictable pictures with less
resolution and sharpness, but with more emotional value.
These
pictures reveal a special way of observing, ‘as seen from the corner
of the eye’ or ‘ with eyes half closed’. They evoke souvenirs of
childhood, dreams and a past that is still present.
The first
(‘woman looks at building on Failaka island’)
and the last
picture of this series are about people who go back to the place
where they once used to live (respectively the island Failaka in
front of Kuwait, and a deserted mountain village in Yemen).
The fleeting
fragments of time are not only the transitory
moments in the past but also the awareness of 'here and now'....the last thought before falling asleep, the dreaming, the unconscious and the very first sensation of waking up, the time while enjoying the presence of
things, the staring at the seawaves and the moment of surrendering to the water, the time we spend looking at the world passing by… All these significant but nevertheless poorly appreciated parts of everyone's life make up the story of these series in progress!
It might take some time to complete... the digital photography is taking my focus away for a while, but this is poetry, and poetry will always come back to us.
