Black Orpheus

Rotimi Fani-Kayode
(1955 - 1989) was a Nigerian born photographer living in England,
who created a world of images in which the body is central to the
relation between erotic fantasies and spiritual ancestral values. This series is an tribute to his brave parcours!

Another photographer who inspired me as well is the Brazilian artist Mario Cravo Neto. He combines strong black and white images (often portraits or details of the human body) with coloured photographs who show scenes of voodoo-like sanctuaries and rituals.

In Nigeria I started taking a first series of pictures (workin' title 'Black Orpheus'). I'm trying to complete the story in Belgium, by integrating all the inspiration I ressembled in Africa. On this page we will present the evolution towards an exhibiting project for 2007. |
